Volunteer to help the English-Speaking Union of Malta
ESU Malta relies on the services of volunteers to deliver most of its services. We need your help. Volunteers are needed for our Arm of Support as well as to run some of our courses.
If you have impeccable English, teaching skills, specific relevant skills in writing, public speaking, debating or other related activities or even just want to help with some of our administration or public relations, we would gladly welcome your contribution.
We are currently seeking volunteers, fluent in English, for the following programmes:
1) Arm of Support - Zabbar Primary School
Volunteers devote approximately 2-3 hours once a week, for morning classroom sessions, throughout the scholastic year. The work involves organising various interactive, themed activities in English for Kindergarten Two and Year One children, such as playing games, teaching nursery rhymes and speaking and reading to them. Kindly note that all volunteers on the Arm of Support project will be asked to present a Police Conduct Certificate.
2) English in Action - spoken English courses
Volunteers run spoken English courses for small groups of adults, or on a one-to-one basis. Participants converse in English and volunteer tutors lead the discussions by answering questions, asking questions, pointing out mistakes, setting exercises and introducing new vocabulary. Group courses take place once a week, with a total of 8 sessions of 90 minutes. One-to-one courses also usually take place once a week, with a total of 8 sessions of 60 minutes, but they are more flexible and open to arrangement between participant and tutor. Volunteers need to be available over a 2-month period for each course. Sessions take place at the ESU office in Msida.
3)
ESU Courses
ESU Malta is increasingly involved in running specialised and focused courses. Examples are our e-mail and letter writing course, our presentation skills courses etc. We sustain these courses with a volunteers who are typically professionals in these respective fields.
